Westfield Area Y: A “Second Home” for an Active Senior “I’ll move, but I’ve got to be near a Y!” Marie Poperowitz told her two daughters -- one of whom lives in Westfield, the other in Scotch Plains -- back in 1995. Marie and her husband had retired to the fresh air of the Poconos, following his emphysema diagnosis. Marie took care of her husband during his long illness and took care of her arthritis by regularly exercising at the East Stroudsberg Y. Joining the Westfield Area Y was one of the first things Marie did upon relocating to town. “I moved May 20, 1995, and started exercising May 22,” she laughed.
